In July 2021, I published my debut book of poems entitled, Confessions of a Good Girl. I started writing poetry in elementary and never stopped. Poetry has helped me go through so many changes in my adolescence and adult life.

Because of poetry, I have created an Instagram where I have met and connected with so many writers, poets, and creatives. I’ve hosted monthly virtual open mics where I foster safe spaces for poets to share, to give feedback, and to celebrate each other. I’ve also started a series called Brookie’s Corner, where I interview poets and authors about their bodies of work that they have recently published.

Brookie’s Corner

Brookie’s Corner is an Instagram Live series that I started on my poetry page (@brookiemmadison.poetry), where I go live and interview authors and poets about their books to celebrate and promote them to other aspiring writers, writers, essayists, and poets.

Brookie’s Corner with Savannah Walker

In Brookie's Corner, she spoke with author Savannah Walker who published a children's book entitled, Dear Child: People May Hate You... This book teaches parents and guardians how to have open dialogue with the children in their lives regarding prejudices, stereotypes, hate, and racism. Buy her book here.

Brookie’s Corner with Najya Williams

In Brookie's Corner, she spoke with poet, filmmaker, performing artist, and author Najya Williams. Najya published her book Cotton in 2018 and focuses on themes of identity, social activism, black womanhood, and other topics.

Brookie’s Corner with Pam R. Johnson Davis

In Brookie's Corner, she spoke with singer, songwriter, poet, and author Pam R. Johnson Davis. Pam recently published her second book entitled No Unpaid Passengers, which had themes of healing from heartbreak, mental health, childhood trauma, blackness, and more. We also discussed her first book, Seasons (I'll be Seeing You). More info about Pam can be found on her website.
